This memorial wesbite is a celebration of the life and work of Maurice Silber (1922-1995). Loving husband and father, artist, innovative jewelry designer and manufacturer, entrepreneur, educator, and decorated WWII veteran, he was an extraordinary and gifted individual. A native New Yorker, Maurice Silber was in the first graduating class of Music and Art High School. He attended Pratt Institute, the Art Student's League, and Cooper Union, studying with many of the leading watercolorists of his time. He designed and manufactured precious jewelry for his own firm Jewel Arts, Inc., was a master craftsman, and introduced many technical innovations and advancements to the jewelry manufacturing industry. Jewel Arts, Inc. was a major supplier to many of New York's and the nation's retail jewelry companies.

Maurice was listed in "Who's Who in American Art", and was featured as the author and artist of the "Watercolor Page" in the June 1972 American Artist magazine. His work has also appeared in various other publications.

Maurice exhibited extensively both nationally and internationally. He maintained a studio both in New York, Costa Rica, and later San Diego, teaching and exhibiting in each location. His paintings are in the permanent collections of the U.S. Navy Art Collection, the U.S. Air Force Art Museum, and in many collections throughout the world.

Maurice was an avid sailor who loved sailing and the sea, as reflected in many of his paintings, though his interests and subject matter are quite varied.

Among his affiliations were the Salmagundi Club, Society of Illustrators, Artists Fellowship, San Diego Watercolor Society, and La Jolla Art Association.
